We attended Saffi’s 5th of 6 puppy classes last night where she came 2nd for walking to heel. Saffi has clearly worked out the benefits of performing for an audience (lots of applause!) because her walking to heel on a day-to-day basis isn’t worthy of much praise!
However, in general her training is going brilliantly and so I thought I’d update you on Saffi’s commands and what she has successfully mastered in the 11 weeks that we’ve had her.
Saffi will reliably do the following:
- Turn (anti-clockwise turn)
- About (clockwise turn)
- Take it
- Toilet (if, of course, she needs it!)
9 times out of 10 Saffi will do the following:
If I pat my knee when I’m sitting in the front seat of the car she’ll jump on. She also understands ‘no’ and is at that delightful age where she’s biddable and eager to please so we only have to say ‘no’ once or twice and she works it out. I’m painfully aware that we could soon reach a stage where she will want to push the boundaries and rebel…
Here is a video of Saffi’s key commands
In next week’s final puppy class we will be tested on all the commands we have learnt in the classes to date. There will also be a prize for the best trick… Marcus and I are quietly confident though in saying that I’ve probably jinxed our chances!
